YOUR CHANCE TO OWN A BIT OF HISTORY.
Up for sale is my classic 1966 BSA A65 Lightning. When I got it 8 years ago, it had ape-hanger bars, short megaphone exhaust, didn't run and other attributes. I have tried where possible to replace or add parts that are authentic. It has had 3 lots of "winter work" done -- mostly to ensure it's safe and reliable operation or to fix things that needed fixing. The last two lots of work were done by a BSA specialist -- namely Deer Park Cycles in Sykesville, Md. Since acquiring the bike, I have a full set of records of what work was done. It's a great bike -- never been restored but probably perfect for keeping as is or undergoing a full restoration.
Here is a video of me starting it: https://youtu.be/llHLGxjxAU8
This Lightning turns 50 years old this year so naturally it does not come with a warranty of any kind. It starts, runs nicely, has good tires, mostly everything works, but at 50, it's not a bike a novice can jump on and ride across country to Sturgis. Bike has a clear title in my name.
Mileage is indicated as 5,060. I have no way of knowing if this is accurate or not.
One reader wrote in that the engine and frame numbers don't match. He thought that the engine is a 1966 and the frame is a 1968. Another reader said he thought that the front end, brake assembly, and tank are 1969. This may well be. I don't know much about the earlier history of this bike. I do know that I have cared for it nicely while I have owned it.
I am selling it because with a seat height of 32 inches, I am short and can not put both feet flatly on the ground and would rather look for a bike that has a lower seat height.
I do have some manuals and other accessories including a tool kit.
Come and see it, bring your helmet and license and test ride it.
Send your name and phone number and best time to call and I will be in touch to arrange for you to come and see it.
Don't ask: "Is the bike (or item) still for sale?" If the listing is up, then it is. When sold, I will delete this listing.
